Can you help me set up my wireless/network printer?
Do you do hardware repairs?
I do the basics: I can replace your hard drive, optical (CD/DVD) drive, RAM, etc. I don't do soldering.
Do you sell hardware or software products?
Let's say I want a hard drive upgrade for my laptop?
If you are looking to upgrade your machine, I suggest you visit http://www.macsales.com and order the part to be replaced yourself. Their site will explain which drives are good for your machine. Email me your machine's details if you need help (Apple Menu>About This Mac). Once you order your new drive, you can bring it to me to be replaced. Depending on which model of machine you have, and what needs replacing - this may take anywhere from about 1 to 3 hours, plus a half hour or so of my time to transfer the data from one drive to the other (a process which can take overnight sometimes, on slower machines with fuller drives). You can also do the data transfer yourself - and you can even do the "surgery" yourself - this is easier on newer machines. Check www.ifixit.com for some great free guides to taking your computer apart. Of course, if you're squeamish, I'll do it for you.
What about diagnosing hardware issues?
While I have good instincts about this, certain problems can involve lots of poking around before a decisive conclusion can be reached. If you have the time for it, check out www.ifixit.com for some great troubleshooting information - and links to replacement parts for your old machine. If you can figure out what you need on there, and order it from them, I can replace it for you. You can also take your machine to Apple, and see what they think needs replacing - and I'll also be able to do the repairs they suggest, generally for less then they would charge.
Will you come to the Penninsula, or SF?
Yes, but I will charge 1/2 of my driving time.
Do you work on weekends?
